What to Expect?

A Domestic Energy Assessor will attend the property and undertake a full assessment of the energy efficiency of your home. They will need access to all the rooms in your house including the loft. They will be looking at your heating systems and controls and will need to take measurements and photographs. The energy assessor may ask you for documentation about recent improvements to your house, this will help them ensure the most accurate information is entered and you benefit from the best rating on the EPC, but don’t worry if you don’t have these as the assessor can assume this information instead.

The EPC will rate your property on a scale of A – G with A being the most energy efficient and G being the least. You must have an EPC to sell or rent a property and if you are renting the property you will need to achieve a rating of at least a D. The certificate will also provide helpful recommendations on how the property can be improved to reach any desired ratings. The majority of homes in the UK fall into the D-E category.
